Two Months In: Building Kova, One Coffee at a Time

When we opened Kova at the start of April, we knew exactly what we wanted to create.
Not just somewhere to grab a coffee on the way to work, but a place where people would choose to spend a little time. Somewhere welcoming, calm, and focused on quality. A coffee shop that felt like part of the community.
Two months later, we're incredibly proud of what we've achieved so far.
Since opening our doors, we've served hundreds of customers, made over 1,700 drinks, welcomed familiar faces back week after week, and watched Kova slowly become part of people's daily routines.
We've celebrated busy mornings, survived quiet rainy days, learned countless lessons, and spent a lot of time refining everything from our coffee recipes to our pastries, service, and events.
Some of our highlights so far include:
Launching our first speciality filter coffee programme.
Introducing our loyalty scheme.
Hosting the first Kova Book Club.
Working with incredible local bakers and suppliers.
Building a team we're genuinely proud of.
Receiving fantastic reviews and feedback from customers.
Of course, opening a small independent business isn't always smooth sailing.
There have been days when the weather kept people at home. Days when equipment didn't behave as expected. Days when we questioned whether anyone would turn up.
But there have also been moments that remind us exactly why we started.
Customers bringing friends for their first visit.
People travelling across Leeds to see what we're about.
Parents stopping by after the school run.
Regulars whose orders we already know before they reach the till.
Those moments matter more than any sales figure.
One thing we've learned quickly is that Kova is becoming whatever our customers need it to be. For some people, it's a quick coffee before work. For others, it's a quiet place to read a book, meet a friend, or spend a few minutes away from the noise of everyday life.
That's exactly what we hoped for.
As we head into summer, we're excited about what's next.
We'll continue bringing in interesting coffees, running community events, improving our food offering, and making Kova a place that Pudsey can be proud of.
Most importantly, we'll keep focusing on the things that matter most: great coffee, great service, and creating a welcoming space for everyone who walks through the door.
Whether you've visited once, visit every week, left us a review, shared a post, or simply recommended us to a friend - thank you.
Kova wouldn't exist without your support.
We're only two months in, but this feels like just the beginning.
See you soon.
The Kova Team
